For anyone sitting on the sidelines waiting to jump in - I say, Go for it now.

They haven’t said how long the promo is good, but whoever gets in the door, is in.

Who is One.com? They’ve been around for almost a year and a half. They look very well funded and spent a nice chunk of change to buy the One.com domain from a company called Blue Circle Hosting back in mid-2006.

I asked around the web hosting community and no one’s heard anything negative about their of service or reliability.

No guarantee that they’re perfect, but at least the price is right to test them out.

The only thing I highly recommend is making sure you have the ability to control your domain name. Should anything not go your way, you’ll at least be able to hang on to your domain and take your hosting business to another provider.

If I was a TV - I would watch my computer

This TV box has been staring me in the face --- I look at it often --- It turns on in the morning and I usually see it near bedtime. Between those bookends of life I stare at a computer screen. There is a break when I look at a smaller form with my Tilt phone. I am a communicator.

My e-mail saved me today when DTV4PC promised me 1,056 live channels on my PC. I have always wanted to watch live re-runs of the Mongolian version of The Price is Right.

If I owned a webhosting firm I would place one of my bets on TV, video hosting, streaming delivering or whatever...Adult purvayors (content providers) took the lead but now we are mainstreaming - streaming everything. This takes just what you want - people that want your stuff so you can deliver their stuff. Heavy demand on bandwidth, servers and everything else that generates revenues. Yes I would bet my bandwidth, technology, personnel, training, advertizing, reputation and all the cost centers to be a prime deliverer.

I want to test drive every car in a 3D, virtual world before I buy. Be able to look down and see where the cup holder is located.

You can either own content, or deliver content.

Try this out. If you are quite happy and satisfied with your web host, try to see if they are offering an affiliate program you can participate on. Instead of you paying them, why not make it the other way around; them paying you. The process can be as easy as putting a small "powered by" or "hosted by" link at the bottom of your page and you are already in an affiliate business.

Do Paid Keyword Ads Jeopardize Organic Search Rankings?

I heard about this from Dan Kimball at ModernBill. Bill Slawski has two interesting posts on Search Engine Land and SEO by the Sea about a just-granted Microsoft patent ("Systems and Methods for Removing Duplicate Search Engine Results").

The patented technology aims to "efficiently locate desired information.... by] removing unnecessary multiple references to a common resource such as redundant URLs as another listed URL". Consequently, any given page of search results would contain a greater number of unique URLs than would otherwise occur without filtering. Bill says this implies the possibility of removing organic search results from pages that already contain paid listings.

Two Search Engine Land readers reported that they've already seen organic rankings drop as a result of buying keyword ads from Yahoo! and Google, respectively. While search engines are understandably eager to maximize keyword ad revenue, Bill says the ideal situation for advertisers is to have a paid result, an organic result AND a Google Onebox result all on the same page.

This reminds me of Business 2.0's "Perfect Online Ad" article, in which Usama Fayyad, the NASA rocket scientist turned Yahoo! researcher, says paid search alone is much, much less effective than multiple forms of exposure. (He was making the case for non-search ads, though, seeing as 95% of our online time is spent on non-search activities.)

In any case, I did a quick Google search for web hosting and found that there's no overlap at all between the paid ads and organic listings on the first page. Even more interestingly, GoDaddy has the #2 Adwords bid (which puts it at the top of page 1), but a #11 organic ranking (top of page 2). HostGator, on the other hand, has a lower bid that puts its ad on page 2 - but its organic ranking is #9 (bottom of page 1). Coincidence? Or filtering? What do you think?
